Breaking Down the Noise:  Acoustics with Cold-Formed Steel

You just closed a big deal for a new apartment project and head back to the hotel for an early night before a 7:00 morning flight.  Unfortunately, few of the guests on the same floor are worried about sleeping, let alone letting anyone else get some shut eye.  Now you understand why the architect on the apartment project felt so strongly about ensuring your wall and floor/ceiling assemblies would be robust enough to keep out the noise from next door.  You make a note to look further into acoustics issues before the project start up.

Well, now is your chance.  SFIA is proud to present a webinar on acoustics in buildings and how CFS fits into the picture. 

The webinar will be presented by Mr. Andrew Schmidt from USG’s Corporate Innovation Center.  Andrew will bring his architectural acoustics, research, and product development experience to address a wide range of issues related to acoustic performance in CFS buildings.  Learn about minimum code requirements, different test methods for meeting performance, ways to improve performance, and other issues related to acoustics and CFS specifically.

Andrew Schmidt
Acoustics Lead, Building Science – USG Corporate Innovation Center

Andrew is an acoustical consultant experienced in a wide array of commercial and residential construction types. With an engineering degree from the acoustics and music program at University of Hartford, he spent his early years as a consultant at Jaffe Holden Acoustics, under the mentorship of the late Chris Jaffe. Schmidt’s expertise spans all areas of architectural acoustics, including sound isolation, room acoustics, and mechanical systems noise and vibration control. He joined USG Corporation in 2017 as a senior researcher in the Building Science Lab with focus on new product development, technical support, and creating next-generation acoustic tools and resources.  Andrew is an active member of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the Gypsum Association (GA).
