SFIA Releases Annual and Fourth Quarter 2018 Market Data Report on Cold-Formed Steel Framing
The volume of steel used to manufacture cold-formed steel (CFS) framing products in 2018 remained level with 2017 totals, with fourth quarter 2018 totals coming in 2 percent lower than the volume reported in the third quarter of 2018, according to the latest Quarterly Market Data Report released by the Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA). For 2018, CFS manufacturers reported using 1,126,178 total tons of steel (raw tons before processing), compared with 1,124,193 in 2017. In the fourth quarter of 2018, the industry-wide statistical survey finds that manufacturers used 268,063 total tons, compared with 273,682 total tons reported in the previous quarter. SFIA Contractors Achieve Certification Status
The SFIA Contractor Certification, introduced in March is off to a strong start with the first two companies awarded certification for both Nonstructural and Structural framing and 20 additional companies currently in the certification process. This new certification, which promotes best practices and continuous improvement, will be promoted to general contractors and owners looking for contractors with CFS expertise, high levels of training, and quality assurance.
